The  2012 Summer Tabla Camp is held at our Edison center and the daily schedule is packed with great activities.  If you attended last year’s camp, you’ll remember how memorable it was!  If this is your first year, you won’t want to miss what we have in store!

Unprecedented Tabla Trio: Taalika

Introducing…the unprecedented all-female tabla ensemble, TaalikaTaalika consists of Jin Won of South Korea, Sejal Kukadia of NY,  and Heena Patel of Toronto.  The three come together to present a classical tabla trio which was composed especially for them by Guruji, Pandit Divyang Vakil.  Taalika recently performed in India in the summer of 2011 (with Maitree Mewada) – here is a look at their performance.  Taalika’s first performance in the USA was at the Nari Concert in New York City, and next they perform in Albany, NY on April 22nd, when they open the concert for Rushi Vakil’s world-fusion band, Taan

Celebrating Women of Tabla!

Taalim School of Indian Music presents:

“CELEBRATING WOMEN OF TABLA”

The tabla is a male-dominated instrument, and the number of professional female tabla players in the world is slim.  In March, Taalim School will hold a special concert celebrating women percussionists.  The event will coincide with National Women’s History Month, and will be one-of-a-kind in that it will feature only female tabla players.

“Rhythm in Dance” Workshop

Free Workshop: November 20 at 5pm


A fun, entertaining and educational workshop in which participants learn about the musical relationship between Indian percussion (tabla) and the intricate footwork patterns of classical Indian dance (kathak).    All ages will enjoy this workshop conducted by Taalim faculty members: kathak dancer, Jin Won and tabla player, Michael Lukshis.
