Congratulations to our June 2014 Student of the Month – Female Tabla Player Devyani Mishra!

Devyani Mishra is a 10th grade student who has been taking tabla classes at our Piscataway and Edison locations with Jin Won since 2012.  Devyani was inspired to take tabla lessons after seeing a concert by Talavya and has been dedicated to the instrument since then.  Her love for tabla is such that she has decided to give her primary focus to tabla and her practice, reducing all of her other extra-curricular activities.

In the Taalim community, Devyani is known for her extensive knowledge of tabla and Indian music, indicating how she always spending time learning and listening.  She’s an active participant in our instrument and maestro quizzes, often being the first to provide the correct answer!

When asked why she enjoys tabla so much, her answer was:

I love tabla because it’s a science as much as it is an art. I am able to develop my understanding of both aspects while playing this lively instrument with other dedicated students and a helpful, friendly teacher.  Tabla is my strongest connection to my Indian heritage and by far the most valuable one.

Congratulations Devyani! Your focus and commitment are a great example to students of Taalim!
