To All Taalim Students:

Would you like to help raise money for a good cause while improving your own tabla playing?

Taalim’s “Pledge-for-Practice” is an annual 6-week pledge drive in which Taalim students practice hard to complete a set numbers of hours of tabla practice, in order to raise money for financially disadvantaged young tabla students in Ahmedabad, India (via the Rhythm Riders Music Institute Scholarship).

Last year, eleven Taalim students from NJ, NY and PA participated in this pledge drive. And together, they raised $4500!  100% of this amount went to the Rhythm Riders Music Institute Scholarship.  One of our NJ-based students, Leela, was featured in this newspaper article for single-handedly raising $1000:

This is a commitment to your practice.  At the start of the 6-week period (February 24th), each student will set a practice goal.  We recommend 1 hour per day for 6 weeks – so try to set a goal of around 35 to 45 hours.  The number of hours each student practices will translate to the amount of dollars their individual “sponsors” (your relatives and friends) will donate to this cause. The pledge drive will culminate with the Spring Recital/Fundraiser on April 6th, where all of our talented students will show off the results of their hard work!

Would you like to take on this fun challenge?  Let us know by February 10th.
