Congratulations to our November 2014 Student of the Month – Young Tabla Player Sagar Vellalath!

November 2014 Student of the Month - Sagar Vellalath learned through tabla that there is rhythm in everything.

Sagar Vellalath is a 7th grade student who has been learning from the Taalim School for 2 years under the guidance of Kaumil Shah at our South Brunswick location.

He developed an interest in tabla after watching tabla accompaniment in his sister’s Hindustani classical vocal concerts.

When asked why he enjoys playing tabla and chose to learn tabla, Sagar says:

I like playing Tabla because it is lot of fun and enjoyable. It’s an instrument that is diverse.  Tabla can provide a steady beat or any rhythm. It has the ability to make any sound. Tabla can be the star of a performance or it can accompany other instruments.  That is why I love learning Tabla.

I have learned many things from the experience of learning Tabla.  Through tabla, I learned that there is a rhythm in everything around us.  Also, I learned that it takes years and years of dedication and hard work to master the art of playing tabla.

Congratulations Sagar!
