About Mike Lukshis

With over 15 years of direct, Gurukul style training by Tabla Guru and composer Pandit Divyang Vakil (fondly referred to as “Guruji”), Mike has been imbued with the living tradition of Tabla solo playing. Each of his performances is rich with the variety of Tabla’s many traditional Gharana compositions as well as ever emerging contemporary pieces by Guruji. Through different Taal rhythm cycles, Mike demonstrates his abilities with the intricate syncopation of Layakari, the complex rhythmic calculations of Tihai, and the vocal percussion of Padhant. For select audiences, he can present an extremely rare performance 108 Paltas of the famous Delhi Gharana kaida “Dhatita”.
